Lyndhurst Football and Netball Club have been honoured at last week's AFL Coaches Association awards night for winning the Fox Footy club rewards program as the nation's most outstanding grassroots club.
Earlier in the year we covered the success of Lyndhurst in claiming the award and what it took to win it, but this was now the opportunity for club members to reap the rewards that this award entailed.
Nine members of the club were in attendance at the awards night to receive their recognition from the AFL Coaches Association and Fox Footy.
They beat out 68 clubs around Australia, who were all nominated for demonstrating beneficial community support initiatives.
National Program Ambassador and former Richmond Coach Danny Frawley congratulated Lyndhurst on Triple M program,
The Hot Breakfast.
“Lyndhurst has been involved in whole host of campaigns and that is what local football clubs are all about. Forget the fact that they play netball and football on the weekends, it’s a community initiative, and it’s fantastic that the Fox Footy Club Rewards and the AFLCA have got together to present this magnificent award,” said Frawley.
This was the second reward that the club had received as 40 members of the club attended Carlton Football Club for a day in the life of a footballer experience led by Carlton coach Brendan Bolton.
A few club representatives also made a guest appearance on popular Fox Footy program AFL 360 last month, rubbing shoulders with hosts Gerard Whately and Mark Robinson and giving the club national exposure.
They are just rewards for the work that the Lightning have done; from their efforts with charities and health initiatives, to their indigenous work and partnership with the Sri Lankan AFL team for the International Cup tournaments.
The campaigns that Lyndhurst have been a part of include Lace Up, The Fight Against Breast Cancer, The Beehive Foundation and Livvi’s Place.
Again, we would like to congratulate Lyndhurst for their achievements and have deserved the accolades and rewards that have come their way.
