Doveton Breaks Through for First Seymour Law Win

Doveton Eagles have finally broken through for its first win of the Seymour Law Cup, defeating Dandenong in the fourth-round 7 v 8 playoff by 19 points in a tight contest at Springvale Reserve.

With both sides searching for their first points coming into their final preseason competition hit-out, both the Eagles and the Redlegs were keen to make a positive early impact on the match. And it was the former that were the early aggressors, booting the only three goals of the first term to put some breathing space on Dandenong.

It proved a decisive advantage, as the Redlegs matched it with their more fancied opponents for the remainder of the contest. They went goal-for-goal with Doveton in the final three quarters, and while it wasn't enough to steal victory, it ensures they enter the 2017 season proper with enthusiam.

In the later 5 v 6 clash, a barnstorming Carrum Patterson Lakes ran over the top of Hampton, emerging victorious by 38 points.

The Hammers flew out of the blocks with four goals in the opening term, and looked every bit the winner en-route to a 18-point quarter time advantage.

Not to be denied, the Lions quickly set about eradicating the deficit, a feat they achieved early in the third term. They booted nine of the last 10 goals of the match - Hampton's fifth and final goal came in the last quarter - to steamroll their Division 2 opponents in an entertaining spectacle.
