Demons Assemble Imposing List

Relegation to Division 3 could have sparked a long-term set back for Springvale Districts by encouraging players to leave the club.

However, the Demons have not only retained all senior players from last season but have enhanced their squad with aggressive recruiting.

“Our list is definitely stronger than what it was last year,” coach Kris Thompson declares.

That is a frightening prospect for other Division 3 clubs, given Springvale Districts won a third of its 2017 matches in Division 2.

Such is the abundance of new talent, just a small sample can be highlighted here.

George Angelopoulos arrives with big potential. The two-time Noble Park premiership player has also played in the VFL with Box Hill Hawks and his friendship with Thompson helped get him into a Demons’ jumper.

Angelopoulos will be an important cog in an imposing midfield as will Sam Raru.

Raru featured in a TAC Cup premiership with Oakleigh Chargers before spending a couple of seasons with Port Melbourne in the VFL.

Jared Henshaw has caught the coach’s eye since crossing from Lyndale, earning praise from Thompson.

“He’s been really impressive. He’s a strong-marking medium-sized forward,” Thompson said.

Springvale Districts’ daunting list will be tested against league newcomer Hampton Park in an electrifying Good Friday battle.
