Division 1 - Preview

With Good Will Hunter

Just one standalone match features this weekend as part of a split Round 12 in Division One, with the remaining eight sides looking forward to a well-earned week off.

Chelsea Heights V Cheltenham (Beazley Reserve)

Boy, given where the Heighters and the Rosellas are at right now, last year’s epic elimination final seems like a lifetime ago. Saturday is a massive occasion for Chelsea Heights, as they hold their Past Players day in the afternoon and celebrate the 20-year reunion of their first SFNL senior premiership in the evening, so they will no doubt be keen to put in a big one. They have had nothing to cheer so far this year, sitting winless on the bottom of the ladder and have little left to play for as relegation draws closer every week. Cheltenham, however, has a lot riding on this game. Currently seventh, they are two wins and percentage out of the five so they need a massive win here to keep themselves in finals contention. This is a game the Rosellas simply cannot afford to lose so I expect them to spoil the Heighters’ party.

Division 3 - Preview

With Andrew Paloczi

Round 12 promises plenty more action and excitement.

Mount Waverley vs Ashwood (Mayfield Park)

Ashwood is flying and sits second on the ladder, only being kept out of top place on percentage. However, this week’s game presents a serious challenge for the Magpies having to play away against Mount Waverley. The Mountain Lions are just a game behind the Magpies and occupy fourth spot on the ladder. This is likely to be the match of the round and should go down to the wire, but Ashwood will do just enough to claim victory.

South Yarra vs Black Rock (Fritsch Holzer Park)

South Yarra has a lot to play for in this home match against the might of Black Rock. A loss here would most likely see the Lions slip two games outside the five. This won’t be an easy game for the Jets who have come back to earth a little recently, but Black Rock will have too much class and should triumph by a few goals.

Dandenong vs Lyndale (Greaves Reserve)

Playing at home, Dandenong has an opportunity to achieve a much-needed second win for the season when it plays Lyndale. The Pumas’ season has not been inspiring and it would not be a major surprise to see the Redlegs mount a genuine challenge in this clash, but Lyndale will manage to do enough in the end to get the points.

Hallam vs Carrum Patterson Lakes (Hallam Reserve)

Even playing on its home turf is unlikely to be enough to give Hallam much hope of defeating Carrum Patterson Lakes, but the Hawks never quit and are sure to put on a good show for their fans. It won’t be enough to win and CPL should eventually break away to win by a comfortable margin.

Sandown vs Endeavour Hills (Edinburgh Reserve)

Sandown will hope to have renewed vigour against Endeavour Hills as it enters this home match refreshed after a bye. The suspicion is that the Falcons will be too good and will maintain their hopes of clinching a spot in the finals.

Moorabbin gets to rest up as it has the round 12 bye.
