The Southern Football League in conjunction with the Umpires Association will be seeing pink on Mother’s Day weekend (11-12 May) as clubs and players compete in the fifth annual Pink Sports Day in support of Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA).
Pink Sports Day is a chance for sports clubs right across Australia to show their support for, and pay tribute to, women and families from their local community who have been affected by breast cancer.
Almost 15,000 Australian women are expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer this year alone. The funds raised through Pink Sports Day are critical to BCNA’s work in ensuring women diagnosed with breast cancer are provided with the very best information, services and support possible.
Jo Cripps, Ambassador for Pink Sports Day and Goal Umpire for the Southern Football League urged locals to get behind their clubs this Mother’s Day weekend.
“The idea for Pink Sports Day began when our all girl panel at the Southern Football League Umpires Association decided we wanted to raise funds for this worthy cause. Breast Cancer affects many women and I myself know of several woman who have had breast cancer and won and some that were not so lucky, a friend recently passing away this year,” Cripps said. “I am hoping to exceed $1000 from the game itself and anything above that will be a fantastic bonus!”
Pink Sports Day is great opportunity for the whole community to head down to their local club and support not just the teams competing on the day, but also women and families in the community that have been affected by breast cancer.
