Mother’s Day weekend is a time to celebrate the women who shape our lives.
It is a weekend for mums, grandmothers, sisters, aunties, daughters, friends, teammates, coaches, volunteers and the many women who give so much to their families, clubs and communities.
This Saturday, the Springvale and District Netball Association and the Southern Football Netball League will come together to recognise that contribution, while also supporting a cause that touches far too many Australian families.
Breast cancer remains one of the most significant health challenges in the country. In 2026, more than 20,000 Australians are expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer, while around one in seven women will face a diagnosis in their lifetime. Its impact is never felt by one person alone. It reaches partners, children, parents, friends, teammates and entire communities.
On Saturday 9 May, SDNA and the SFNL will host Netball Pink Round at Rowan Road Courts, supporting Breast Cancer Network Australia through the Play4BCNA initiative. The day will raise vital funds and awareness for those affected by breast cancer, while giving the local netball community a chance to show its support in a simple but meaningful way.
The Springvale and District Netball Association has been a staple of local netball and women’s sport for more than 60 years. Across that time, it has been more than just a place to play. It has been a community hub, a safe space to socialise, compete, volunteer, support one another and build friendships that last well beyond the final whistle.
This weekend, that same community spirit will be on full display.
Players, coaches, supporters, families and clubs are encouraged to “pink up” on the day. Whether it is pink socks, pink ribbons, pink bibs or a splash of pink in the crowd, every bit of colour helps show support for Australians affected by breast cancer.
There will also be a gold coin donation opportunity, raffle prizes and SDNA’s annual BCNA cake stall, with all proceeds going towards the cause.
Clubs and teams are encouraged to get involved by donating cakes for the stall. Donated cakes should be sliced, wrapped and labelled with all ingredients. Cake donations can be dropped off the night before, on Friday 8 May, between 4:30pm and 6:30pm.
For those who cannot attend or would like to donate early, contributions can also be made online through the Pink Sports Day fundraising link.

Pink Round is about more than wearing a colour. It is about standing with those who have been diagnosed, those currently going through treatment, those supporting loved ones, and those remembered by their clubs and families.
So come down to Rowan Road Courts this Saturday, wear pink, bring a gold coin, donate a cake, buy a treat, support the raffle and enjoy a great day of netball for an important cause.
Together, the SDNA and SFNL community will make this Mother’s Day weekend one to remember
