After 16 rounds of hard & frantic footy in this years edition of SFNL women’s, we’ve seen new teams enter the fray and contend right from the very beginning along with contenders emerging from the pack and staking their claim on crowns already held by others.
Now we are down to our final eight teams across two divisions ready to fight until the very last gasp for premiership glory.
All eyes will be firmly fixated on Beazley Reserve in Chelsea Heights over the next three Sunday’s to decide who our premiers will be in the 2025 SFNL Community Bank Murrumbeena Women’s finals series.
It all gets underway bright and early at 9:00 as the home side Chelsea Heights take on the fourth placed Hallam in what promises to be an enticing match up. For the winner off to a preliminary final the week after against either Berwick Springs or Skye. For the loser it’s onto 2026.
These two sides have met twice in 2025 sharing the best of three series at 1-1 coming into this final. The Dees were successful the first time by 36 points in round 1 while the Hawks fought back in round six winning by 4 points. It’s been an awful long time between drinks for these two in terms of match up’s and it promises to be an absolute cracker. The Dees Georgia Foreman has found form of late especially after her 10 goal effort against Murrumbeena in round 15 so the Hawks will need to be weary of her while the Hawks have a dangerous trio of Sharon Kirkpatrick & Jaymee Eastmood who have kicked 44 between them in 2025 while the skipper Amy Riordan who’s effort around the ball always captures the eye of many will be keen on keeping the ball rolling!
Our second final is for that all important first spot in this years division two grand final as the Titans who have been nothing short of brilliant take on the ladies of Skye who finished second and take to finals footy for the first time since 2023. The Titans were impeccable in 2025 to date with an imposing 13-1 record and a percentage that would make anyone shake in their boots. They are coming off a 159 point victory over Dandy West and with players like Jasmin Hansen, Kaci Hillis, Nat Van Dort & Nicole Knudsen who have all experienced finals footy before their experience will be critical for some who may be experiencing any finals nerves. The Bombers too are coming off a good pre finals tune up with a 94 point win coming off Emily Lasjak & Mel Hewitt kicking a bag between them. They will know if they get first use it’ll go a long way to rocking the Titans boat.
While the season series is currently with the Titans at 2-0 finals brings another element of surprise and excitement and you never know what’s around the corner.
Then the afternoon really hots up as the division one finals get underway and in a rarity all four finalists here in 2025 were all grand finalists across both divisions in 2024 now looking to wrestle that converted premiership cup off current reigning premier Endeavour Hills.
The first semi final is between one of last year's division one grand finalists and eventual runner up Casey Thunder and last year's division two premier Frankston Dolphins. The Thunder had another magnificent season finishing third with an impressive record of 12 wins and 4 losses and come into the game here off an impressive 78 point victory over Clayton. While for the Dolphins they had to not only win their last home & away match against Bentleigh who were fourth at the time but get a tiny bit of percentage back in their favour in order to grab fourth spot, and they did that in top fashion with a 34 point victory keeping the Dees goaless and ending their finals hopes. The Thunder lead
the season series as it stands at 2-0. But it could come down to who can win the forward battle as Claire Quigley & Lana Fullwood have been super all season both being in the top 5 for goal kicking in 2025!
While the day will come to a crescendo with the second semi final and that all important first spot in the grand final being on the line as the reigning premier Endeavour Hills face off the exciting Murrumbeena. The Falcons did what very few teams can do and go through the season undefeated while the Beena have been right behind them every step of the way with a solid 13-3 record in 2025. Both sides have talent that many teams would love to have. From the Weston sisters for Endeavour Hills where Nicola excels at leading the side from the front it’s then Alyssa who puts sides to the sword with her exceptional goal kicking. With 49 for the season it’s been complete for her so far after she rounded the home and away season with another bag of 8 against Mordialloc.
Along those two there’s also their fellow interleague representatives from earlier in the year in Alesha White, Kiana Te Huia & Brooke Bouchard who will have their impacts known. While for Murrumbeena the excitement factor will sit around Charlotte Trewarn down forward she’ll look to use her text book pace to leave her opponents in the dust. While skipper Kat Rosendorff will look to give the likes of Isabella Whelan & Ash Bertagno first use of the footy out of the ruck.
No matter what way the results go early we are promised a very even and exciting finals series as we get closer to crowning premiers in 2025.
