Vale Jack Davidson

Jack Davidson 1

It is with deep regret that the Mordialloc Football Club announces the passing of Jack Davidson, former president and club life member. Over his 30+ years service to the club, Jack filled almost every position within the Mordialloc Football Club.

Jack also served on the board of the Mordialloc Sporting Club for several years, whilst still being involved on the committee of the football club.

Jack was always ready to step in and help when needed.

Jack was a good friend of the league, and was always a prominent figure keen for a chat with league representatives. The league and all those who knew Jack will sorely miss him, and the SFL extends its sympathies to the family and friends of Jack, and to the Mordialloc Football Club.

The following story appeared on the SFL website in 2010, when Jack was made a life member of the Mordialloc Football Club:

The year 1977 was a memorable one for both Jack Davidson and the Mordialloc Football Club. Jack was the Mayor of the City of Mordialloc and Mordialloc won the VFA Second Division Centenary Premiership. To celebrate the occasion and recognize the achievement, Jack arranged a Mayoral reception for the successful players and officials at the Council Chambers.

Thus commenced a relationship which was to last until the present day. Jack was elected Club President in 1982 and has subsequently filled the position of Secretary and Treasurer with great distinction. He was the recipient of the Club's highest honour in 1987 with the awarding of a Life Membership. Together with a small number of stalwarts in 1988 Jack oversaw the momentous decision to leave the VFA mid season and join the Southern Football League.

In all his endeavours Jack has been ably supported by his wife Shirley who is also a Life Member, and their family members including Ian who in 1989 won the Club's Best and Fairest and is also a Life Member, a unique combination. Jack and Shirley have always been the first to volunteer to perform the essential jobs required to run a successful club, washing and mending jumpers, timekeeping, working behind the bar or in the canteen and fund raising.

In the late nineties Jack was a member of a small group who had the foresight to put their hand up for an allocation of electronic gaming machines. This led to the formation of the Mordialloc Sporting Club which in 1998 assumed the operation of the former Mordialloc Hotel. The Mordialloc Sporting Club, of which Jack held the position of President until 2006, has been a major sponsor of the football club in recent seasons. The Mordialloc Football Club is deeply indebted to Jack and his family for their tireless contribution to the club over the past thirty years.
