Six players from the Southern Football Netball League are in the running to pull on the Vic Metro representative jumper after AFL Victoria announced the initial Vic Country and Vic Metro squads.

The 34-man squad was announced following performances in the third instalment of the AFL Victoria WorkSafe Community Championships, taking into account player injuries and availabilities.

East Malvern trio Christopher Carey, Lucas Hall and Luke Duffy all feature in the squad along with Cheltenham spearhead Josh Fox, St Pauls key defender Will Clark and Dingley winger Lucas Walmsley.

The recognition of these players once again shows the strength and talent found within the Southern Football Netball League competition.

The team will be coached by 199-game Footscray legend Bryan Royal, who has once again put his hand up to lead Vic Metro’s top senior talent.

Melbourne’s best will be keen to get one back on Danny Frawley’s Vic Country side, after going down to them by 39 points in the last encounter.

The initial squads will conduct training sessions in mid-June, with the final squads to be released in the lead up to the 2018 AFL Victoria Community Cup.

The Vic Country vs. Vic Metro showdown will be held at Ballarat’s Mars Stadium on Sunday July 8.
