Southern FNL Celebrates Pride Round Through Football

With this month being Pride Month, the first weekend in June is recognised as Pride Round for the Southern FNL. Clubs and teams across the League are encouraged to celebrate the diversity of our communities and to promote inclusion.

Mens and Womens football teams across the Southern FNL will be celebrating Pride round in style when certain clubs roll out their pride jumpers. Two clubs that will be rolling out these special jumpers are South Mornington of Division 4 and Bentleigh womens of Division 1.

Bentleigh will wear their special jumpers, that features a rainbow chevron at the front of the guernsey, in the round 4 match up against Casey Thunder 1, the game is at Bentleigh reserve tonight with the first bounce due at 7:00pm.

Team Manager Emily Roberts Said, “It's a great round that means a lot to a lot of people including players that represent us… The first year we had the jumpers was in 2019 and it's always great to bring them back every year.”

South Mornington will wear their colourful jumper that features full rainbow sash (Front and back) when they play Lyndale on Saturday night at Citation Reserve with the first bounce at 6:00pm for their round 8 clash. 

This Match will also be the broadcast game of the round and you can watch it by clicking the red button at the bottom of the article.

South Mornington president Lachlan Belltowers enthusiastically stated, “We pride ourselves on being an inclusive club, so it was great for the club to design such a special jumper.”

The Tigers will also field AFL great formerly of the Brisbane Bears/Lions and the Western Bulldogs, Jason Akermanis. Akermanins will make his debut for the club in what sure is to be a great game.

“We’re wearing our special jumpers, Jason Akermanis is playing, and the winner will be awarded the ‘Pride Cup’,  it is sure to be a fantastic night for all involved as its a celebration of everyone being included and welcomed.” Belltowers added.
