This weekend the SFNL will further strengthen its partnership with
beyondblue through its annual dedicated League-wide
beyondblue Round.
The
beyondblue Round was initiated to start conversations, reduce stigma and increase support-seeking for anxiety, depression and suicide prevention within the sporting community. Mental health should be part of everyday conversations and we encourage everyone to speak about it with their peers and within the club.
Across this round, all players have been encouraged to wear blue tape around their right wrists, with many clubs wearing their blue
beyondblue socks.
East Brighton will also be taking on Murrumbeena in a marquee match at Hurlingham Park for the annual
beyondblue Cup. The SFNL will also be holding a
beyondblue Cup Luncheon from 1pm, with guest speaker and
beyondblue Ambassador, Tim Richardson.
For the first time, this round is in alignment with AFL Victoria’s inaugural
beyondblue Round and together we hope to make a difference to mental health in Australia.
If you’re worried about someone at your club and want to start a conversation with them about your concerns, simply letting them know you care can make a big difference.
If you or someone you know needs to talk things through,
beyondblue mental health professionals provide an expert listening ear, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You can call 1300 22 4636 for support, or visit
www.beyondblue.org.au.
