Round 8: Netball Review

By Chelsea Ryan

The 8th round of SFNL’s Netball competition had a few nail-biters across and some solid wins across the board as the ladders started to really take shape in the season.

On Thursday night it was an A grade clash between Dingley and Cheltenham, who played against each other at Dales Park in all four A grade divisions.  Dingley impressively went home with all four wins in some excitingly close games.

The remainder of the teams please at Rowan’s Road Reserve on a gorgeous sun shining day – the nice gift from the last Saturday in Autumn.

A1 Division

Dingley (1) 51 defeated Cheltenham (1) 27

It was a top of the ladder game between Dingley and Cheltenham who had so far in the season had played four games and were both undefeated going into the match. It wasn’t as much the battle as anticipated with Dingley producing some high class netball to lead through the game with consistent scoring and solid defence.  Cheltenham put up a good fight but didn’t have the energy to match the dominating Dingley side.

Cranbourne (1) BYE

A2 Division

Murrumbeena (1) 38 defeated Caulfield Bears (2) 37

Murrumbeena woud have been very pleased with this sweet one point victory to put their second win on the board this season.  This catches them up to Caulfield and leaves these two teams, plus St Kilda City (1) and Cranbourne (2), all on 8 points. An interesting and even second half of the ladder with more interesting developments and wins to come from these teams as the season progresses.

A3 Division

Springvale Districts (1) 55 defeated Aspendale Arrows (2) 34

Springvale Districts went from strength to strength in this match against Aspendale holding their spot on top of the leader board.  They have only had one loss for the season in Round 5 against Hampton who are interestingly 8th on the ladder, with the victory over Springvale Districts being their only win for the season so far.

Another awesome close game in A4 with South Yarra taking home the win by only a point against Parkdale!  A fantastic match up between second and third on the ladder. South Yarra never lost their cool and with that were rewarded with the points and sit in second place on the ladder behind Mordialloc.
