Round 15: Netball Review

By Chelsea Ryan

Finals futures were on the line in tough conditions for Round 15 of the SFNL’s netball competition with many teams stepping up to make finals opportunities come true.  It will now be down to the final round next week to completely seal the deal.

A1 Division

Dingley (1) 60 defeated Cheltenham (1) 35

It was 1st vs 2nd on the ladder.  A showcase of what the A1 grand final could just be.  Dingley took control from the start and once again displayed their dominance of the season.  Cheltenham put up a decent fight but it wasn’t enough to match the relentless force of Dingley.

It was a very similar outcome to when they played in round six with Cheltenham going down by 24.

Dingley will be beaming with confidence going into the finals.  Whereas Cheltenham now have time to recoup, analyse their game and make a plan for when they meet again.

Aspendale Arrows (1) 47 defeated Caulfield Bears (1) 42

Cranbourne (1) BYE

A2 Division

St Kilda City (1) 32 defeated Cranbourne Eagles (2) 28

Exciting times for St Kilda City with this win over Cranbourne as this places them in 5th on the ladder with the same amount of wins as Cheltenham in 4th.  Cheltenham will be disappointed with their outcome this week going down to Dingley as this leaves their finals position vulnerable to St Kilda City

It will be up to the final round! St Kilda City are expected to win next week playing 8th on the ladder, Caulfield Bears. Whereas Cheltenham are up for more of a challenge as they verse 3rd, St Pauls McKinnon.

A3 Division

Dingley (2) 40 defeated Cheltenham (3) 39

We love a close game! Especially when it’s down at the pointy end of the season.

It was 4th vs 6th on the ladder with the upper team Dingley getting across the line at the end of the game.

Hot on Dingley’s heels for finals contentions is South Yarra who also won this week, putting them in 5th with also 7 wins.

Just like A2, it will be up for the final round. Dingley play 7th on the ladder Aspendale Arrows. Whereas South Yarra have a bit more of a tougher match playing Keysborough who sit 3rd.

Keysborough (1) 47 defeated Hampton (1) 37

A4 Division

South Yarra (2) 59 defeated Parkdale Vultures (1) 29

A huge win for South Yarra as they win by 30 points against 3rd on the ladder, Parkdale Vultures.

Due to this win they have now stepped up into 4th spot as Carrum Patterson Lakes lost to top team Modialloc.

In the final round there is still a chance for Carrum Patterson Lakes to reclaim a finals position if they beat 3rd Parkdale Vultures and if South Yarra lose to 2nd Doveton Doves. It is unlikely, but never say never!
