Round 11: Netball Review

By Chelsea Ryan

The 11th round of the SFNL’s netball competition was one with some thrilling close games as we get to the more pointy end of the season.

A1 Division

Dingley (1) 53 defeated Mordialloc (1) 34

The result was as expected for this game with Dingley dominating in A1.  They have scored the most points overall at 469 goals and stand second for points against at 262.  They are also expected to win the next couple of games before they come up against 2nd on the ladder Cheltenham in Rd 13 on the 23rd of July.  This is the game (if any) that will test out their skills.

Next week Mordialloc, now 4th on the ladder, will take on 3rd, Caulfield Bears.  Both teams are at four wins and four losses for the season so this will prove to be a more evenly matched and exciting game.

A2 Division

Port Melbourne Colts (1) 27 defeated Caulfield Bears (2) 26

First vs last on the A2 ladder had expectations of a demolition.  But this was not the case with Caulfield Bears stepping up against Port Melbourne and keeping them at bay, only going down by 1.  Port Melbourne remain undefeated with 9 straight wins and Caulfied 2 wins and 7 losses.

Despite maximum efforts and cheers on the sideline, Caulfield didn’t get the win on the board unfortunately but this game speaks volumes about what can be the remainder of their season.  Next week they come up against 3rd on the ladder, St Pauls McKinnon, who better be on their toes ready for some action!

A3 Division

South Yarra (1) 43 defeated Aspendale Arrows (2) 36

South Yarra, now 6th on ladder, has defeated Aspendale, now 5th on ladder. Which now means that 4th Keysborough, 5th Aspendale and 6th South Yarra are all sitting on 4 wins and 5 losses. With only four rounds in the season to go it’s going to be a race between these three teams to be in those top four positions for finals.

Looking forward to seeing the battle play out!

A4 Division

Doveton Doves (1) 49 defeated Carrum Patterson Lakes (1) 31

Doveton Doves stay in a steady 3rd position on the A4 ladder with a convincing win over Carrum Patterson Lakes, making that four wins in a row.  They come up against top team Mordialloc next week which will test their skills, then afterwards they play lower teams on the ladder.  Provided they are victorious this will bring in some confidence towards the finals.

Carrum Patterson Lakes will be needing to win the next two games against lower ladder teams for their best chance for a finals spot as they then come up against the top two teams in the final two rounds.
