The SFL has released the initial squad to take on the Essendon District Football League on March 28 in the annual AFL Victoria Metro Carnival.
Led by senior coach David King, the initial squad contains both established stars of the competition, as well as an up-and-coming younger brigade.
Speaking at the unveiling of the squad, SFL CEO David Cannizzo said the squad that King and his team had assembled was an exciting one on paper.
"I think we learnt a bit from a gallant performance against the WRFL last year, and I think this preliminary squad reflects some of those learnings - there remains a focus on experience, but there's also a lot of pace and youth in the squad."
"The program David King and his team are putting together promises to be a tough but very professional one, providing a great development opportunity for the players exposed to it. We know we're coming up against a strong opponent, but we look forward to the challenge," Cannizzo said.
King will be supported by Representative Manager/Chairman of Selectors and former Melbourne player Paul Hopgood and assistant coaches in two-time SFL Division 1 premiership coach Ben Murphy, Ben Lockwood and Shane Morwood.
Training will commence in the coming weeks, with all relevant details to be confirmed with all players within the next 24 hours.
