The Southern Football Netball League wish to advise that the Southern Dragons Football Club has gone into recess from last night and will not be participating for the remainder of the 2015 season.
The SFNL Board and Administration have worked closely with the Southern Dragons since their return to the League late last year.
The SFNL were aware the Southern Dragons had significant challenges when rejoining the League and have tried to assist them through those challenges. The SFNL took a ‘hands on’ approach monitoring Southern Dragons’ progress via the ‘Adopt a Club’ initiative and provided mentoring on sponsorship, player recruitment and club development, but always being mindful not to compromise the League and Club relationship.
The SFNL Board Executive met with the full Southern Dragons committee on 12 May 2015 and put plans in place for the next 30 days, 60 days and 90 days, including arranging discussions with the City of Kingston with respect to their ground.
Unfortunately, even with that assistance, the Southern Dragons committee came to the decision that they could not see the Club as sustainable at this stage and for that reason, made the decision to go into recess.
The SFNL is disappointed with the Southern Dragons’ decision as this creates significant impact across the SFNL and the Division.
The SFNL Executive will meet shortly to discuss the matter. All remaining matches involving Southern Dragons will be treated as a forfeit with calculations made pursuant to the SFNL By-Laws.
