King of the South

The Southern Football League is delighted to announce two-time AFL premiership player David King as the Head Coach of the SFL representative team that will participate in the 2015 AFL Victoria Senior Metropolitan Championships.

King will lead the players and assistant coaches throughout the entire training program and the all-important match against the Essendon District Football League on Saturday 28th March 2015.

King will be supported by Representative Manager/Chairman of Selectors and former Melbourne player Paul Hopgood and quality assistant coaches in two-time SFL Division 1 premiership coach Ben Murphy, Ben Lockwood and Shane Morwood.

“I am absolutely pumped to be involved in the inner sanctum of local football and really looking forward to being head coach of the SFL representative team,” King said.

“I have a really clear picture of what the SFL are wanting out of the entire representative program and there will be a great opportunity to teach and further develop SFL players and coaches.”

“We want to win and will be picking a side and developing a game plan that will give us the best chance to do so against the Essendon District Football League in 2015.”

SFL Chief Executive David Cannizzo was over the moon with the securing of David King.

“This is a fantastic appointment for the SFL and our clubs that will present their players and coaches with the opportunity to learn from one of the game’s greats.”

“David will bring a level or professionalism and excitement to the entire program that we look forward to.”

Cannizzo also confirmed that Moorabbin Reserve has been secured for the months of February and March as the premium training facility for the SFL representative squad.
