Amongst a myriad of half-time entertainment at the Division 1 and 2 Grand Finals, the James Boag's Draught Longest Kick held at the Division 2 Grand Final on Saturday September 20 saw Cheltenham's Pat Nicholls take out the major prize of $750, with a further $250 going to his club. Leaving it until the very last kick of the final, Nicholls booted the ball 63m to take out the prize in front of an adoring home crowd.
In the annual James Boag's Draught Sprint on Sunday September 21, Murrumbeena's James Shirley set the pace in the heats and proved unstoppable in the final at half time of the senior game, taking home the $750 purse with a further $250 to the Murrumbeena Football Club. Although pitted against tough competition, including last year's winner in Black Rock player Rob Kugler, the 26 year old Shirley eased to the win in a dominant display in front of a packed house of 5000 people.
