Excitement builds ahead of first-ever Women's Round

Southern Football Netball League Gears Up for Stand-Alone Women’s Round This Saturday

The Southern Football Netball League (SFNL) is set to make history this Saturday, July 12, as it hosts its first ever stand-alone Women’s Round, with all matches to be held at two central hubs — Overport Park in Frankston and Greaves Reserve in Dandenong.

In what promises to be a celebration of community, talent, and inclusivity, the full fixture of women’s games across both Division 1 and Division 2 will be played and broadcast live, allowing the wider SFNL audience to join in from afar. The initiative highlights the league’s continued commitment to growing women’s football and recognising its importance within the broader sporting landscape.

Overport Park to Host Division 1 Showdown

Frankston Dolphins will play a key hosting role at Overport Park, where all Division 1 matches and one Division 2 clash will take place. Dolphins captain Ruby Code said the club is proud to be front and centre for such a landmark day.

“The club is excited to host all the Division 1 games and 1 Division 2 game at Overport Park this coming weekend. It’ll be the first time the club has hosted a day like this and we are excited to see what the day brings for us!” said Code.

“This year the Women’s team and I have embraced the challenges of Division 1, after winning the Division 2 premiership last year. We are looking forward to Saturday — a day filled with fun, competition, and one where the SFNL community can all get around Women’s Footy. Up the Fins!! 🔴⚫️⚪️🐬”

Pride and Progress at the Heart of the Round

Adding a layer of celebration to the round is the Pride element, with clubs recognising the importance of inclusion and representation within the game.

Georgia Wicks, captain of the Narre South Saints, spoke passionately about the impact of the round:

“We’re proud to be part of this weekend’s Women’s and Pride Round. It’s a great opportunity to recognise the strength and passion of the women in our club and league, while also celebrating inclusion and diversity in our game,” she said.

“A standalone round gives these moments the attention they deserve, and we’re excited to be part of it.”

Dandenong West Welcomes the League to Greaves Reserve

Meanwhile, Greaves Reserve will host a number of Division 2 matches, with first-year club Dandenong West proudly playing a major role in the round.

Captain Zoe McQualter said the experience of hosting such a showcase was a privilege and a reflection of how far women’s footy has come in the region.

“We feel very privileged and excited as a first year club to not only be a part of a showcase day but host it on our home deck,” McQualter said.

“We’ve seen women’s football continue to grow from strength to strength in the Southern and are glad we’re now a small part of that. We look forward to seeing everyone come together and the turn out of people getting behind Women’s football at Greaves Reserve Saturday.

Up the West 💙🤍🩷”

A Day to Celebrate Women’s Footy

The SFNL Stand-alone Women’s Round is more than just a fixture — it’s a statement. By bringing all women’s matches together at central locations, live-streamed and filmed for all to see, the league is shining a well-deserved spotlight on its female athletes, clubs, and communities.

Whether you’re cheering on from the sidelines in Frankston or Dandenong or tuning in online, Saturday’s round promises to be a proud moment for everyone involved in Southern football.
