Wickham is in her 40th year as a volunteer at Mordialloc and the club is recognising her contribution with an appreciation day at Ben Kavanagh Reserve on Saturday, June 27.
Wickham has served the Bloodhounds in a number of roles — working in the canteen, helping with bingo on Friday nights, secretary, sitting on the general committee — but most notably as a timekeeper.
She started at age 15 in 1975, when Mordi were in the old VFA. Her father, Alan Buckley, was secretary at the time and asked her to keep time for the Under 17 team’s matches.
Four decades on, she’s still doing it, for the reserves and seniors. You’d need a heavy-duty calculator to tot up the number of games she’s overseen from the box.
“I wouldn’t have a clue,’’ she said. “I’d hate to think how many. Two games in one day … it would be a lot. But I’m not one of those people who worry about milestones. I just go about my business of a Saturday.’’
