Division 1 – Round 9 Preview

With all teams having enjoyed a very well-earned week off over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend, expect them all to come firing after healing their wounds and recharging their batteries.
Chelsea Heights V St Pauls – Beazley Reserve
Still searching for that elusive win, the Heighters are fast running out of chances to hoist themselves off the foot of the ladder. They host St Pauls this week, a team that has looked out of sorts so far this year. Remarkably, despite their poor form, the Doggies are just one win and 3.26% out of the five. I reckon they might give Chelsea Heights a touch up this week and kick-start their charge toward September.
Mordialloc V St Kilda City – Ben Kavanagh Reserve
Their second victory a fortnight ago would be a massive confidence-boost to the young Saints. They now sit two games clear of the bottom-placed Chelsea Heights with almost double the percentage, which significantly helps their chances of staying afloat in Division One. They come up against a Mordialloc side that, after enjoying a dream start to 2015, have now hit a bit of turbulence, losing three of the last five matches. But they’ve been the better of these two sides so far this season, the Bloods, so they should return to form and account for St Kilda City.
Bentleigh V East Malvern – Bentleigh Reserve
Injuries have hit hard at Dunlop Reserve, and as such they’ve dropped off the pace in the last couple of weeks. No doubt the Panthers will have been looking forward to week off more than any other club. Their opponents this week, the Demons, are a young side that are tracking better than their 3-5 record suggests. They are never out of the contest, having only lost once by a margin greater than 21 points, including three defeats by less than two goals. This will be another tight clash, but East Malvern might be too strong.
Cheltenham V East Brighton – Jack Barker Oval
The Rosellas are akin to Forrest Gump’s box of chocolates – you never know what you’re going to get. They are capable of good footy, but are plagued by inconsistency. The Vampires, meanwhile, have consistently been the best defensive side in the comp, conceding an average of 46 points a game since Round 2. Expect them to hold Cheltenham to a similarly miserly total on their way to their eighth consecutive win.
Dingley V Clayton – Souter Oval
The Clays were terrific against Chelt, and in all honesty should probably have won by more if not for errant goalkicking. They’ve now leapfrogged the Rosellas into fifth and put themselves in finals contention. But Dingley are simply going from strength to strength, with an impressive array of ball-winners and plenty of options in attack. On their recent form, it’s hard to imagine them not featuring in the big dance and they will be far too good for Clayton.
Division 2 – Round 9 Preview

As the season gets closer to the midway point, several teams will be looking to make their move on the ladder.
Skye vs Highett (Carrum Downs Recreational Reserve)
This will be an interesting game with Highett fighting to stay within reach of the top five. Skye’s depth has been tested the last few weeks and coming up against a Highett side capable of anything, it will be tested again. The question will be how long the depth can hold out. My guess is another week at least.

Keysborough vs Heatherton (Keysborough Reserve)
After suffering its first loss of the season, Keysborough will look to bounce back against Heatherton at home. The Tonners have struggled throughout the season and will need a minor miracle to topple the Burra. Keysie just have too many weapons up forward starting with division two leading goalkicker Tyson King.

Caulfield vs Oakleigh District (Koornang Park Reserve)
The Bears are in pretty good form after winning three straight but Oakleigh are top of the table after defeating Keysborough last week. Oakleigh are in the best form they have been in for a few years and will look to consolidate it this week. The continued return to form for Adam Connell is huge for the Bears but Oakleigh are just too good.
Oakleigh Districts by 19 points
Murrumbeena vs Doveton Eagles (Murrumbeena Park)
The Beena are in pretty good form after bouncing back from their loss to Oakleigh to record a comfortable win against Heatherton. A win here against Doveton will keep them in the fight for the final two spots in the top five and with milestone games for Cory Hargrave and Matt Jones (both celebrating their 100th), the boys will be out to get a win. Doveton have shown improvement recently but still have a lot of work ahead of them.
Murrumbeena by 27 points
Hampton vs Springvale Districts (Peterson Street Reserve)
Currently sitting fifth on the ladder, Hampton need a win to take a little bit of the pressure off. Murrumbeena are pushing hard for that fifth spot and a slip up here will cost the Hammers. Springy have been disappointing for the last month and need a big lift here. Too much on the line here for Hampton to lose at home.

Division 3 – Round 9 Preview

Round 9 should be smooth sailing for tipsters, but events rarely unfold that way in reality. There are just as likely to be some surprises, especially with a bye that may halt the momentum of some teams, whilst refreshing others that have been struggling.
South Yarra vs Hallam (Fritsch Holzer Park)
South Yarra goes into its home clash with Hallam, having won half its games and proving to be a much improved side this season. The Lions should make it a couple of wins in a row, and although the Hawks will fight hard, South Yarra will get the job done by a few goals.
Dandenong vs Carrum Patterson Lakes (Greaves Reserve)
Dandenong is at home against Carrum Patterson Lakes. The Lions will have too much clout for the Redlegs, and it will be a surprise if this game is close.
Southern Dragons vs Endeavour Hills (Keeley Park)
All the good work the Southern Dragons had put into being competitive recently came unstuck in a massive loss in the last round. Despite being on home turf against Endeavour Hills, more pain seems set to be inflicted on the Southern Dragons in this clash. The Falcons will soar to a substantial victory.
Mount Waverley vs Sandown (Mayfield Park)
Mount Waverley is again at home, with Sandown this week’s challenger. The Cobras need to pull off a major upset to get the points in this one, and it is hard to imagine this occurring.
Black Rock vs Ashwood (MacDonald Reserve)
Ashwood is going well, and has won all but two of its games so far. Despite being away from home, the Magpies will make Black Rock work for the points, but this tipster is not brave enough to go against the might of the unbeaten Jets. None the less, it was the Magpies that caused the upset of last season.
Moorabbin vs Lyndale (Widdop Crescent)
Lyndale travels to Widdop Crescent to take on Moorabbin. The Kangaroos will be far too strong and should record a comfortable victory to shore up their spot in the top two.
