The Annual Foundation 49 Cup is back for 2014 in a special Sunday match this weekend between East Brighton and St Pauls.
Now in its sixth year, the Foundation 49 Cup sees two of the SFL’s greatest rivals go head to head in a Grand Final replay, all in the name of improving men’s health.
Each hour in Australia, more than four men die from conditions that are potentially preventable. Foundation 49 is dedicated to increasing awareness and education of male-related health problems and promoting regular checks and early treatment. It is hoped that by doing this, the outcomes of men’s health issues such as depression, high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, prostate cancer, testicular cancer, infertility and bowel cancer will be significantly improved.
Steve Hill, East Brighton Football Club President said “Establishing the F49 Cup highlights the need for men, in general, to take better care of themselves, have regular checks and generally try avoid preventable diseases by early detection”.
“Michael Rogers, East Brighton Football Club Vice President, in conjunction with Gary Richardson, Chairman of Foundation 49, pioneered the day back in 2009 and we have celebrated it with a one off Sunday Fixture each year, attracting great crowds and great games of football with the Vampires holding the advantage at present 3-2.”
“We would also like to acknowledge and thank St Pauls for their continued support and participation but will be looking to avenge our Grand Final loss and take the F49 Cup back to Hurlingham Park”
East Brighton will be hosting a luncheon on Sunday at Hurlingham Park with special guests SFL CEO, David Cannizzo and F49 Chairman, Gary Richardson. Commencing at 12pm midday, tickets can be purchased on the day for $25.00 with all proceeds going to F49. All are welcome to come along for this great cause.
