Last night, the Southern Football League held their final night for the inaugural 2013 Leadership Mentoring Program. All participants in the program were presented with their certificates acknowledging their successful completion of the SFL Leadership Mentoring Program.
The SFL Leadership Mentoring Program was developed to provide valuable leadership and communication knowledge and skills to future aspiring leaders in the SFL. The program was geared to provide participates an opportunity to experience what it is like to be a leader within a mainstream sporting club.
The intended outcomes for the participants of the program were:
- To become future leaders within a sporting club and the broader community.
- To enable people with a disability to participate in meaningful volunteering roles within a mainstream sporting club.
- To make possible to participants the opportunity to be mentored by larger organisations to further enhance their involvement and expertise as leaders within the sports industry.
SFL Chief Executive David Cannizzo detailed his observations of the program.
I can comfortably say as an active participant throughout this program that all participants have embraced all of the outcomes.
It has been so satisfying to witness the participants absorb the knowledge and information that has been distributed to them over the last few months.
The participants are so much more in touch with so many key topics affecting society and community organizations today.
The Southern Football League can be truly confident that the participants will take all of this information back to their clubs, where they will now provide leadership mentoring to club members and potential community club members, and promote fully inclusive practices within their community sporting club environment by engaging members and potential members to develop and improve their leadership potential.

- Cr Stephen Hartney (Mayor Bayside Council)
The SFL would like to again thank Kerrie Brindell, the program facilitator. Kerrie put in an enormous amount of personal time and effort and the participants enjoyed working closely with Kerrie over the last few months. Well done and thanks Kerrie.
