The Southern Football Netball League would like to thank all clubs, players, volunteers and supporters who proudly took part in
TAC Road Safety Round, helping spread the important message that
every decision behind the wheel matters.
Across the weekend, clubs from throughout the league wore blue armbands, shared road safety messages and encouraged their communities to commit to safer driving habits both on and off the field.
The round served as a powerful reminder that while football and netball bring communities together, road safety is something that affects us all.
From slowing down and driving distraction-free to planning a safe trip home and looking out for teammates, clubs embraced the campaign in their own unique ways while reinforcing one united message –
Be The Difference.
Throughout the weekend, clubs including
Cheltenham, Frankston Dolphins, Chelsea Heights, Port Melbourne Colts, Dingley, Black Rock and
Caulfield Bears all shared important road safety messages with their communities, encouraging members to make safe choices every time they get behind the wheel.
Many clubs highlighted that the most important result isn't the one on the scoreboard—it's making sure everyone arrives home safely.
The round also highlighted this year's focus on speeding, which remains a contributing factor in around
30% of fatal crashes in Victoria. By wearing blue armbands and taking part in the campaign, clubs honoured those who have lost their lives on Victorian roads while encouraging conversations that could help prevent future tragedies.
Hawthorn Football Club star and TAC ambassador Nick Watson joined SFNL representatives Charlie, Tom, Chelsey, Alesha, Noah and Liam at the official TAC Road Safety Round media launch at the MCG, where they helped promote this important initiative and reinforce the message of safer roads through community sport.
The TAC Road Safety Round is also part of the
TAC Club Rewards Program, which gives clubs the opportunity to earn up to
$10,000 by promoting road safety initiatives and encouraging members to complete the TAC Road Safety Survey.
While the round may be over, the message continues.
The Southern Football Netball League encourages all players, officials, volunteers and supporters to continue making safe choices on our roads, because every decision matters and every journey deserves a safe arrival home.
