The TAC Round 14 of the SFNL’s netball competition was a blustery day in very much freezing conditions. Despite this there were many close matches and surprise wins by those on the hunt for finals.
A1 Division
Caulfield Bears (1) 55 defeated Cranbourne (1) 27
Cranbourne have had a disappointing couple of games since their win against the top team Dingley. With lots of team members away they did what they could in a game, if won, could have placed them in the finals.
The conditions were tough but Caulfield Bears shooters Sophie O’Kane, Naomi Henry and Sophie O’Shea were steady across all four quarters to provide consistency on the scoreboard to give them a confident win to remain 3rd on the ladder.
St Kilda City (1) 27 defeated St Pauls McKinnon (1) 26
An awesome win in the end by St Kilda City over St Pauls McKinnon in a game with quite a few errors due to windy conditions. Both teams were a draw on 20 points at three quarter time with St Kilda stepping up to take the victory over the bare seven that was St Pauls McKinnon. This leaves St Pauls McKinnon in 3rd on the ladder while St Kilda City sit 5th. Finals are possible for St Kilda City as they chase Cheltenham’s 4th position, being only one win behind them. They will need to beat Cranbourne next week and Caulfield in the final round which is very much possible if they keep up the work and stick to their game plan.
Dingley (2) 38 defeated Port Melbourne Colts (1) 36
Cheltenham (2) 32 defeated Murrumbeena (1) 18
A3 Division
Keysborough (1) 33 defeated Dingley (2) 28
An exciting match to watch from these two teams sitting on the edge of the top 4. Dingley took control of the first three quarters leading by 4 going into the fourth term. Keysborough took over in the last quarter with GS Laura Bacic stepping up in the windy conditions shooting 9 goals to put her team in front to take the win over Dingley by 5 points. Keysborough are now sitting comfortably in third on the ladder whereas Dingley (4th) will need to win against Aspendale next week to keep South Yarra (6th) off their heels.
Springvale Districts (1) 43 defeated South Yarra (1) 22
East Brighton Vampires (1) 43 defeated Hampton (1) 26
A4 Division
Carrum Patterson Lakes (1) 27 drew with Dingley (4) 27
A tough match between middle ladder teams. Dingley had a great start but then only led by 1 at three quarter time. Carrum Patterson Lakes then put the pedal down to push to the very end in the final quarter to create a draw at full time. Not what either team would have wanted as Carrum Patterson Lakes sits 4th, with South Yarra just behind in 5th chasing a finals spot against them and then Dingley who remain in 6th depending on a big win next week if they are to creep into the top 4.
