Southern Set For Interleague Road Trip

The Southern Football Netball League will hit the road next year with an away clash against North Central Football League fixtured as part of the 2018 Worksafe AFL Victoria Community Championships.

The fixture, released yesterday by AFL Victoria, will see 34 community football competitions from both metropolitan Melbourne and country Victoria go head-to-head on Saturday 19 May in a bid to to rise up the state-wide rankings.

It will be the first road trip for the SFNL since the launch of the revamped representative carnival in 2016, with Southern hosting the Ellinbank & District and Central Highlands leagues in the last two years.

North Central FL falls under the banner of AFL Central Victoria, and includes teams such as Wycheproof-Narraport, Birchip-Watchem, Charlton and Boort. A decision on a host venue is yet to be made.

AFL Victoria Community Football Development Manager Stephen O’Donohue said the event is a terrific opportunity for community players to be able to showcase their skills.

"The WorkSafe AFL Victoria Community Championships has fast become one of the most anticipated events on the community football calendar, with the opportunity for players to represent their league continuing to be a highlight for footballers in grass root competitions across the state," he said.
