SFNL to Tackle Riddell District in 2019

The Southern Football Netball League will again face an interleague road trip next year with an away clash against Riddell District Football Netball League fixtured as part of the 2019 Worksafe AFL Victoria Community Championships.

It will be the second consecutive away fixture for the SFNL, following last year's trip to Boort to face the North Central Football League.

The fixture, released today by AFL Victoria, will see 30 community football competitions from both metropolitan Melbourne and country Victoria go head-to-head on Saturday 18 May in a bid to rise up the state-wide rankings.

The SFNL are yet to be beaten since the launch of the revamped representative carnival in 2016, with victories over Ellinbank & District, Central Highlands and North Central leagues over the last three years.

AFL Victoria Community Football & Development Manager Stephen O’Donohue said the 2019 representative competition would once again be a highlight for grassroots footballers across the state.

“The 2019 WorkSafe AFL Victoria Community Championships promises to be another exciting event on the community football calendar,” he said.

“As per each season, all leagues have the ability to opt-in to participate in the competition, and as long as the desire to play representative football is still present, the opportunity to compete against the best senior players in community football will be available.”

Venues and match times for the clash will be announced in the new year.
