Jets Appoint Senior Coach for 2018

The Black Rock Football and Netball Club is pleased to announce the appointment of former Hampton and Murrumbeena player Lachlan Batt as its new Senior Coach for 2018.

Batt previously coached the Hammers' Under 19s from 2014-15, with the side reaching Grand Finals in both of his seasons in charge. He was also a playing assistant coach in the seniors over the same period.

This season Batt crossed to Murrumbeena where he was a playing senior assistant under Stevie Wright, a year in which the Beena finished runner-up to Chelsea Heights.

Batt was also involved at Interleague level as a senior assistant coach with the SFNL Under 18 and Under 19 teams for the last two AFL Victoria Community Championships.

From a playing perspective, Batt is originally a Hampton Rovers product, and amassed more than 170 games of junior and senior footy before moving across the road to join the Hammers in 2009. His eight seasons at the Toolbox included a senior premiership in 2010, as well as the senior captaincy in 2012-13.

While the 29-year-old is relatively young in senior coaching terms, he will have several experienced heads around him for support.

Batt takes the reins from ex-Jets premiership player Jay Williams, who is moving with his family to Torquay. Jay himself was young and inexperienced when he took the job on earlier this season, and after seeing how well he resonated with the players throughout the year, the club believes a younger coach like Batt is the way to go.

According to President John Burke, Black Rock is a club that prides itself on giving opportunities for all people, regardless of age or ability, to participate in sport and contribute to a team culture. As such, the Jets are thrilled to be able to offer a young man the opportunity to embark on a senior coaching career, and are confident that Batt will help the club take strides forward in 2018.

Black Rock are also on the look out for prospective players as it aims to establish Under 19 and Women's Football teams for the 2018 season. If you are interested in getting involved with a community-focussed club with a great team environment, contact President John Burke - jburke@blackrockfnc.com.au.
