CARRUM PATTERSON LAKES

CPL have been industrious early in the November transfer period, securing the services of a couple of key players for next season. The club has announced the signings of 2017 Division 2 Reserve MVP winner Shane Dunn and his brother Jake, with the big-bodied Burras joining the Lions with plenty of Division 2 Senior footy experience under their belts. The Dunn boys are capable of playing in multiple key positions and will greatly bolster the side in 2018. In addition, the club has lodged transfers in March for dynamic Jets forward/midfielder Brenton Rafferty and Stu Cormack. Rafferty, a 2015 premiership player, earned BOG honours in Black Rock’s victory over Ashwood last year after booting six goals from the midfield, and with his Division 1 experience at St Pauls, will be a tremendous addition for the Lions. Cormack, meanwhile, was a foundation player for CPL during their inaugural SFNL season in 2013, as well as the club’s best player in their Grand Final loss to Doveton Eagles that year, and the hard-working mid/forward returns to the Den after spending two seasons at his original club, Edi-Asp. The club has also welcomed the arrival of Moorabbin Kangaroos 200-game veteran Andrew Sharp and the return of Daniel Courts after spending the last two seasons at Seaford.

FRANKSTON DOLPHINS

The League’s newest senior club have been industrious with their recruiting efforts pre-Christmas, resulting in a flurry of transfers lodged on the opening day of the February transfer window. Among them are several experienced campaigners including head coach Chris Lacey, former Balwyn premiership ruckman Brendan Murphy and 200-game Bentleigh premiership star Andrew Lee, who will also take on a role as the Dolphins’ midfield coach in addition to his on-field contributions. However, perhaps the Dolphin’s biggest recruit is Luke Kirkland, with a transfer for the veteran spearhead lodged in late February. Kirkland will be a familiar name to many in the Southern League, with successful stints at Black Rock and Mordialloc in the late 2000’s and early 2010’s, before representing a number of country clubs including Huntly, Mallee Eagles and, most recently Wakool where he won a flag in 2013 and booted 92 goals for the season the following year. Kirkland also won the 2010 Senior Interleague best on ground medallion after booting 6.3 in Southern’s victory over the Riddell District Football League.

LYNDALE

Newly-appointed Pumas coach Brett Robinson won’t be the only Masala import arriving at Barry Powell Reserve, with forward Josh Kyle one of five former Tigers looking to don the maroon and gold chevrons next season. Dynamic Hallam goalsneak Shane Thomas also signaled his intention to join Lyndale after requesting a transfer in early February, while former Pumas key position star Alex Kerr returns to Halton Road after a season at Kilcunda Bass. The Toole brothers, Jordan and Liam, are off to Belgrave after finishing first and second respectively in Lyndale’s Best and Fairest last year, while Taylor Rainey (2016 B&F winner) is one of three Pumas that will cross to Hampton Park.
