2016 SFNL Hall of Fame Inductees Announced

The Southern Football Netball League is delighted to announce that six nominees will be inducted into the SFNL Hall of Fame in 2016. The SFNL Hall of Fame exists to recognise and celebrate people who have made significant contributions to the SFNL or its forerunners.

Kingsley Ellis, David Luttrell, Garry Matlock, Mark Seymour and Ken Shaw will join last year’s 22 inaugural Hall of Fame inductees, while Margaret Torpy will also become the first female to be inducted.

The SFNL Hall of Fame sub-committee received many nominations that were carefully considered and attributed to different categories, being a player, administrator, official, coach, umpire, media person or life time achiever.

The quality of the nominations were outstanding, making for an extremely difficult task for the SFNL. The sub-committee assessed the nominees over many areas including longevity, quality of performance, integrity, sportsmanship, good character and promoting the values of the SFNL or its precursor competitions, the Federal Football League, Eastern Suburbs Churches Football Association and South East Suburban Football League.

The SFNL Board reviewed a recommendation from the sub-committee and approved all six inductees into the Hall of Fame in 2016.

The sextet will be inducted during a special Hall of Fame function to be held in June, which will also serve as a special reunion for the Federal Football League.

This function aims to honour the six inductees for their remarkable contributions to local football, but also to acknowledge and celebrate the rich history of the SFNL and its forerunners, in particular the Federal Football League in 2016.

SFNL CEO David Cannizzo said that the six inductees are a wonderful representation of all the volunteers in community football.

“The SFNL are very excited to be celebrating and recognising the six inductees at the second annual Hall of Fame function,” Mr Cannizzo explained.

“These individuals to be inducted are another outstanding crop of people who have contributed so much to the SFNL and its forerunners.

“To have been fortunate to be associated and work with these individuals in recent times, I am absolutely thrilled that these individuals will be rejoiced by our community.”

The SFNL Hall of Fame function will be on Wednesday 29 June at Woodlands Golf Club, White Street, Mordialloc. Tickets are available for $65 per person through the SFNL office on 9553 5644.
